A Taste of Salty and Bitter? Try This Ingredient to Enhance Your Dish, Guaranteed No Waste
No matter how skilled you are as a housewife, there will be times when we accidentally add too much salt while cooking, making the dish as salty as the ocean. In these situations, it’s best to stay calm and find a solution rather than stressing out and throwing away the whole dish. And it’s not too difficult to reduce the saltiness of the dish, just remember these tips:
For soups: soups are usually easier to salt than other dishes and also easier to fix.

– Fix it with rice: Take a piece of thin cloth (cheesecloth) and wrap about 2 scoops of cooked rice in it, then put it in the salty soup pot. The rice will absorb the salt in the soup, making it less salty and more flavorful.
– Fix it with potato: Check your refrigerator and kitchen cupboard for any leftover potatoes. They are excellent for reducing saltiness in soups. All you need to do is peel and slice the potatoes and add them to the soup. Let the potato do its magic.
– Fix it with egg whites: Separate the egg whites from the yolks, bring the soup to a boil again, then add the egg whites and let them cook until they become firm. Remove the cooked egg whites before serving.
Fixing saltiness in other dishes
Fixing saltiness in soups is relatively easy, but what about other dishes like stir-fries and braises? Although it may require a little more effort, it won’t be a problem for skilled housewives who have these secret tips up their sleeves:
Potatoes: Potatoes are like a lifesaver for most salty dishes. They have a great ability to absorb salt molecules without altering the taste of the food. You can use potatoes to fix the saltiness in almost any stir-fry, braise, or other savory dishes.
How to do it: Peel and thinly slice the potatoes, then add them to the dish that has been cooked for at least 15 minutes before serving (remove the potatoes before eating). The saltiness of the dish will be significantly reduced with the addition of potato slices.

Pineapple: Pineapple is also a good ingredient for reducing saltiness, especially in braised dishes. Cut the pineapple into small pieces and add them to the salty dish. Let the pineapple absorb some of the saltiness, then remove it before serving. However, pineapple has a sweet taste, so it might slightly alter the flavor of the dish and make it softer. If you’re unsure, potatoes are still the better option.
